D. L. Gray is the fiction byline of David L. Gray, who has spent years writing books on Catholic history and doctrine under his own name and, following the tradition of many theologians, found a character who might better express the cost of faith. Brock H. Winters is a pardoned felon, a lay Dominican brother, and a parish sacristan who keeps an orphanage's books before nine and finds missing people after. ARTICLE 7, Gray's debut novel, opens a planned thirteen-book series — one book for each article of the Rule that binds Brock, published the way Brock keeps his ledgers, which is to say, not in order. The parish, the Rule, and the paperwork are invented. The faith is not. Gray publishes independently through Saint Dominic's Media, and a dollar from every copy sold goes to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Cleveland.
