Two years since the events of the Crusade, Mila and those with her are completing an investigation of Sacred Circles in the northern kingdom of Klen, only to begin encountering terrible monsters somehow connected to the Plague.

As these horrors are spawning throughout the Old World, Mila and the others realise that they must learn more on their way south, but Bal’Bra chooses to leave them to begin her own journey to finally go to the First Flame, the sacred origin of the Brahli.

While Andra’s plans are being carried out, the prophetess Illaddar is receiving visions from the Nexus of Creation, visions that fill her with the horror of the truth of the Five Powers.
