Desolation
by Jean Marie BauhausNursing student Hannah Jordan expected to spend spring break welcoming her new brother into the world. She didn’t expect to deliver him herself in her family’s backyard bunker as her mother lay dying from a bite wound while her neighbors tear each other to pieces outside. Newly orphaned with a baby to raise, Hannah only knows one thing for certain: all the survival training her daddy put her through didn’t prepare her for this.
Months later, Hannah emerges from the safety of her shelter to find that zombies are the least of her problems. A race of vampires has emerged from the shadows and seized power over what remains of humanity. Styling themselves as saviors, in reality they’re slave masters, demanding payment for their so-called protection in labor and blood. Hunted, abducted and separated from her brother, Hannah is thrown into a prison camp where she quickly learns that the monsters inside the walls are far more dangerous than the zombies roaming outside.
But not all vampires are power-hungry psychopaths, and not all humans are benevolent victims. Who can Hannah trust? She finds allies, enemies, and even love in surprising places in her quest to find her brother, make their escape and survive this strange new world where zombies roam, vampires rule and humans are penned up like cattle.
