Deuces Wild: Beginners’ Luck

by L.S. King

Slap’s ranch was his pride and joy, a place where he could raise his family and live a simple life. But when the notorious gangster Lyssel destroyed everything he held dear, Slap’s world was reduced to charred remains. He was left with nothing but a thirst for revenge.

Tristan, on the other hand, had no attachments or expectations in life. He trusted no one and survived by his wits, finding entertainment in taunting his enemies, especially Lyssel. But when fate brings Slap and Tristan together, they realize they have a common enemy and become unlikely allies.

Forced to work together against Lyssel and his mob, Slap and Tristan must navigate through danger and betrayal to escape the planet alive. But with their conflicting personalities and mistrust for each other, can they put aside their differences long enough to survive?

If you enjoy the thrilling action and unlikely alliances, then you’ll love this gripping sci-fi adventure.

A fun sci-fi Western in the grand tradition of yesteryear!

⚠ Contains spoilers, tap to reveal

Composed of several short stories, this collection follows Tristan (not his real name) and Slap (his nickname). The two meet when Slap saves Tristan in a barfight and Tristan's enemies mistake him for a friend of the drifting fighter. Unable to compromise on his honor by leaving Slap to his enemies' lack of mercy, Tristan rescues Slap and inadvertently helps the younger man avenge his murdered wife and child. Although Tristan usually works alone, Slap needs someone to keep him safe. Can the two find a way to work together? Or will their friendship get them both killed? Slap is sexually abused by a woman during the course of their adventures. There is an off-handed order to murder a man in a horrible manner, deaths take place but are not described graphically, and Tristan is quite enamored of a woman who is also a lady of the evening. Prostitution is mentioned, murder is briefly described, but the book is an easy PG-13 read. Highly recommended for Firefly fans, Western enthusiasts, and space opera readers!
