Aaron Havenes was just thirteen years old when he was wrongfully arrested and shipped off to the galactic frontier where he would labor till he died. He has no rights, no privileges; legally, he has no name. Aaron was, in every sense of the word, nobody: a Capital criminal.

But Aaron might just have a chance to reclaim something resembling a normal life. The Empire’s garrison needs bodies in uniform to defend this small outpost from a vicious alien attacker. If the Capitals can give their Empire just one tour of service in the militia, their debts will be wiped clean.

Aaron knows that the Empire will never honor this deal, but he’s also never going to get a better chance to impress those who could. Soon, he and his friends are caught in a duel of wits between a daring young politician and an ambitious general, all while an alien hive lays siege to the colony walls.
