The Great Forest

by Valinora Troy

“Everything here hates you. The trees long to consume you, the ground to swallow you, the plants to poison you, and as for the creatures who live here… Your only chance of survival is to do exactly as I say. Clear?”

Twins Cathy and Alan are thrilled to be asked by the king of the Diamonds to enter the Great Forest on their eleventh birthday to complete the cleansing of the land. After all, Queen Rose is dead and all darkness gone from the trees. But when their home is attacked by a horde of vicious boars, and Alan and Cathy unwillingly taken to the Great Forest, the twins realise that evil remains there. Now they are faced with a terrible choice: escape from their captors and take their chances at survival, or find out who is waiting for them in the centre of the forest, and why?

Cathy and Alan are about to face the deadliest battle of their lives, against the forest, the monsters, … and each other.

Wonderful close to the trilogy

Wow! What a great end to the trilogy. I love Nivram, the Diamonds and the children who star in these books. Troy really adds to the world and develops the characters and magic with each book. While I love the two books that precede this one, there are elements in The Great Forest that might make it my favorite. There are some scary scenes. Vicky and Susan have a gripping adventure traveling with Prince Paul. I thought their chapters were full of atmosphere and suspense, with a couple of scenes making me worried for the characters! However, it’s the twins, Cathy and Alan, and their journey through the Great Forest that I loved best. Exciting, magical, frightening and emotional. I especially loved Dill and his friends. I hope there will be future books in this world and we will see more of the animals! I was glad the King of the Diamonds was in this book a bit more than the others. I love him so much. When is he getting his spin off series?
